Bud's Guide to Building the Ultimate G35/G37 - Vol. 1 - Exterior (Pt. 1 - Body Kits + Bumpers)
The G35 and G37 (aka the V35 and V36 chassis) have a bad rep for being at takeovers, sounding like trumpets, and just not being very well put together. While this may be true, these are still great cars and if you find one for a good deal it's worth picking up. Owning one of these was never on my radar because of their reputation, but I had a good buddy offer me a deal too good to pass up - and now I own one as well lol. Mine specifically is a 2008 G35 Sedan - all that means is I have a VQ35HR in the Zenki G37 chassis (this was the first V36) and I share parts across the G35 V35 and V36 platforms along with some 350Z Z33 and 370Z Z34 bits. It still has a long way to go before it's worthy of being posted anywhere but my instagram.
Over the past 8 months I've been diving head first into these cars to find everything I could about them. Finding any aero bits I could, companies other than Z1 that make cool parts for them, and really just anything that wasn't common knowledge. I did find kits and aero bits, I did find parts, but I'm now realizing there's a lot of things that can actually be custom fitted with just a little bit of ingenuity and patience. Ryan Coffel's G37 actually set me down the path of "what can I make fit" and oh my lord do I have big plans. Will they happen? I hope so. Will it be soon? Probably not, but we'll see.
I've known Ryan for maybe a few months at this point and he's an amazing guy. Good taste, always doing something different and always seems to pull it off immaculately, and puts the time and effort into almost everything (ask him about his fuel pump issue at Polecat, he technically has a kid now becasuse of it). This is a great example of what these cars can be - VIS Racing AMS GT front bumper, modified WRX wing, Advan wheels, and apparently R35 mirrors (at least that's what the previous owner told him they were before he got ahold of it and did his thing).
It's likely that these cars don't have more style bits available because these cars never got a whole lot of coverage in the drift world when they first came out - even though these are technically Skylines in Japan, I don't think they were treated as such (even though the R35 isn't a Skyline it's still grouped in with the lot of them because it's a GT-R). There are still some cool options availalbe for them though, both OEM and after market.
IMPUL was the first aero company I found that made stuff for these cars. It makes sense they have stuff, considering there was a R33 Sedan that came with an IMPUL kit from the factory.
This kit is a certified "Bud Pick" and while the 563CS kit is a little more on the expensive side, I do think it's worth it considering there aren't many people out there that can say they have IMPUL aero on their car. I personally like the sedan variant over the coupe but that might just be because I have a sedan.

The kit isn't the only thing IMPUL offers for these cars, there's also big brake kits, brake pads, ECMs, springs and suspension bits, exhausts, intake filters, wheels, and chassis braces.
Next on the chopping block, Top Secret. While known for GT-Rs and Supras, they did actually make a kit for the G37 coupe - but it too is just a half-lip kit. Still cool regardless.

Couldn't forget Ryan's G37 either! While he's running just part of it, there is a actually a whole kit that goes with that AMS GT front bumper - along with fenders (we'll cover that in Vol. 2 though). Sorry for that rear bumper picture, literally could not find a single picture of anyone who had that rear bumper on.

These are all great kits that aren't some cheap eBay solution. They're real, they're legit, and they're all different. There are some other kits that are pretty good out there so here's some honorable mentions:

I previously mentioned OEM options for aero. There might be a few missing because there's a good bit of factory options, but here's a general run-down.

The V35 G35 technically has a lot more options availalbe for body kits, but there aren't many that are good in my opinion. There is 1 that must be covered though, the Vertex Digna kit. While just a lip kit, it's still a Vertex product which is pretty cool that they even took the time to make this thing.

Like the V36, there's some other kits available for this thing (Stillen, Fenderist, APR, VIS Racing) but these are just some of the highlights. There's so many ways you can do the V35 that the list would be even longer for this chassis than the V36. Should probably do a breakdown of the G35 the KoruWorks helped build a while back
This series is supposed to shed some light on what's availalbe for these cars. I'll be covering exterior (kits, bumpers, spoilers, add-ons, etc.), interior (seats, safety, dress up bits), performance, steering and suspension, wheels and tires, custom stuff that I or other people have done, and anything else that could be useful. Hopefully this guide helps someone do something cool to help these cars gain a better reputation and legitamize these cars as drift cars and not take over cars. Maybe at the end of this I'll go over my own car and what I've done if it's good enough lol.
Thank you,
Bud
